Boerne White Sox - 1914


Boerne White Sox - 1914 Baseball and the Boerne White Sox were great entertainment for the Boerne public. The team would play other teams in Central and South Texas. Today there is an active Boerne White Sox team in honor of those days and they wear the same team uniforms.

Roggenbucke house- 1883 - Comfort


Carl von Roggenbucke house, built in 1883. Rocks were quarried in the Louis Wiedenfeld place and it was built by Wilhelm Biermann II. It was located on North Creek Road near Comfort.

Boerne Public School - class of 1908 School built 1874 This was the first school - all grades were taught together and was in German not English. Zoom into this photo to see the bare feet and Victorian clothing at the time.

The beginnings of Welfare


Once known as Bonton, the original name of the 1875 post office, it was changed to Welfare in 1880, possibly for the German word `Wohlfarht`, meaning pleasant trip. Carl Phillip Beseler was area`s first postmaster: serving Bonton and then as the first postmaster for Welfare.

Boerne Village Band - 1890


Boerne Village Band - 1890 This is the oldest continuous German band outside of Germany that still plays outdoor concerts each summer in the Boerne park. Music was very important to the German settlers - many bringing their instruments with them when they came from Germany.
